Play Therapy is a special support service offered at CHS for our clients and students. Play therapy enables children to express their experiences and feelings through a natural, self-guided process. As children’s experiences and knowledge are often communicated through play, it becomes an important vehicle for them to know and accept themselves and others.Amanda engaged in play therapy at The Center for Hearing and Speech in Houston Texas

With a child-friendly Play Therapy Room where children feel at ease, an atmosphere of trust and freedom is achieved. This allows children to use their most natural medium—PLAY—to deal with their feelings concerning emotional and/or physical issues in a natural, comfortable setting which enables children to express feelings, explore relationships, solve problems and grow in emotional security.
For the child, Play Therapy can facilitate the expression of their feelings and fears through the natural activity of play. Over time, children may:
    •    Improve their behaviors
    •    Understand how to deal with their feelings
    •    Feel more secure and trust themselves as well as others
    •    Increase their self-confidence as well as their self-esteem
