When and where is Via Colori?
Sat. 11/18: 10 am – 6 pm and Sun. 11/19: 10 am – 5 pm at Hermann Square at City Hall and the surrounding streets. Click here for maps and directions.
Who benefits from Via Colori?
All of the proceeds benefit The Center for Hearing and Speech (CHS), a 501(c)(3) organization that identifies and serves children with hearing loss.
What are the requirements for being an artist?
Along with submitting your artist application, the only requirement is that you must be 18 years or older. You are free to create any artwork as long as it is 1) suitable for general public, family viewing and 2) no commercial messaging (logos, slogans or spokes characters) are allowed and 3) no political messages.
Is there an entry fee?
The festival is free for participating artists to attend.
General admission is $7 leading up to Via Colori and $10 at the door. Children under 18 and students with a valid college ID will receive free admission. The ticket price is good for both days of the festival.

Is there a waiting list?
Yes. After the artist registry is full we begin a waiting list. As a waiting list artist you arrive at the festival and check in at the artist tent by 11:30am. If squares are left unclaimed at noon, we begin assigning waiting list artists to squares. If you are on the waiting list you have a very good chance of participating in the festival. We also pull from the waiting list if an artist withdraws in advance of the festival.
What if I am going to be late to arrive or can only participate one day of the festival?
We encourage all artists to attend BOTH days of the festival. However, we will make exceptions for 4 ft. square artists only under special circumstances. Prior approval MUST be received from Janine Sanborn for us to hold your square.
Am I guaranteed a spot if I’ve been approved as an artist?
No. Artists are not guaranteed a spot unless they secure a sponsor. Click here for more information about sponsorships.
Where do I park?
Artists will park in the City Annex Parking Garage at 900 Bagby St. (corner of Walker and Bagby St.). Parking passes will be distributed to artists at the Artist Reception. Artists can enter the festival at Main Entrance Two: On the corner of Bagby St. and Walker (near City Hall).
If you did NOT attend the Artist Reception and have not received a parking pass, please still report to the City Annex Parking Garage. A volunteer will be at the entrance of the garage to take your name and hand you a parking pass. Please display this pass on your dashboard both days of the festival. We have a limited number of parking spots in this garage, so please try to carpool if you can.
Where do I check in?
All artists must check in at 9 am on 11/18 at the Artist Tent in the Artist Village at City Hall Plaza (intersection of Bagby and Walker).
What happens if it rains?
Via Colori will take place sprinkle or shine. If severe weather is expected both days the festival will be moved to an alternate location - YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED by phone and/or email if this occurs. If rain is expected one day but not the other we will adjust as necessary. Please, always check the weather page and monitor our social media pages to view the latest updates.
What about my art supplies?
The festival provides chalk, breakfast bites/coffee & lunches on both days, as well as water, sunscreen, gloves, baby wipes, etc. in the Artist Tent. You will receive your supplies when you check in on Saturday.
How do I know where to find my square on the street?
We HIGHLY encourage you to attend the Artist Reception on 11/8 to receive your artist packet, t-shirt and details about the festival. You can also get this info when you check-in at the Artist Tent on Saturday morning. There, you will receive your artist packet which has the map. We also have volunteers available to assist you.
As an Art Teacher, can I involve my school and my students?
Yes, there are five ways to involve your school.
- You can sign up as a Teacher Artist and several of your students can work with you on a square (10 x 10 ft. squares only)
- You can enter your school in the youth arts component, Via Apprendista.
- Your students can volunteer as junior artists, where they will help professional artists put final touches on their squares.
- You and your students can volunteer at the festival. Check out volunteer opportunities here.
- You and your students can attend the festival and check out all the cool artwork!
Can I work on my square with a friend or a group?
Yes. When you fill out the application, please make sure to note the names of people assisting you with your square (3 people maximum).
Is the festival wheelchair accessible?
Yes, each area of the festival is accessible, including ADA compliant restrooms.
What food and beverages are available? Can I bring my own?
There will be a variety of food and beverage options available for sale throughout the festival, including beer and wine for those 21 years of age. We will provide breakfast and lunch both days for artists – more details to come. No outside food or beverages are allowed. However, there are certain exceptions for teacher artists and students – contact Kelsey Gross with questions.
