Professionals at CHS are committed to helping children with hearing loss reach their full potential by teaching them to listen, speak and read without the use of sign language. In today's Staff Spotlight, we're hearing from one of our amazing teachers, Diana.

What is your official job title?

Language Teacher

Describe your role at CHS.

I teach listening, spoken language and early academic skills to children with hearing loss in our three-year-old preschool class in the Melinda Webb School.

How long have you worked at CHS?

I came to CHS right out of grad school in January 2013 and have been here since.

Where are you from?

I grew up in Northern Virginia and then lived in St. Louis and Utah while going to school.

What is your favorite thing to do in Houston?

I love going to Astros games! I don’t make it as often as I’d like, but we are definitely a baseball family.

What is your favorite restaurant in Houston?

I’m a big fan of all things Tex-Mex so being in Houston is great for my taste buds! I love the fajitas at Lupe Tortillas.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I would love to go back to Ireland, where my hubby and I went for our honeymoon. It is so beautiful! Germany is another place on my list that I hope to make it to one day.

If you won the lottery tomorrow, what would be the first thing you would buy?

I would have a nice big patio built on to our house.

What three words describe you?

Patient, dorky, new mommy!

What job would you want to have if you weren’t doing this?

I am so lucky to LOVE my job, it’s hard to imagine doing anything else. Shopping for home décor is my favorite kind of shopping and I enjoy decorating my own home so maybe I could be an interior designer. Joanna Gaines wannabe.

What is the best book you have ever read?

That’s a hard one. I have always been a big fan of the author, Margaret Atwood, and loved The Handmaid’s Tale (before the TV show!) and Cat’s Eye is another favorite. I’m also a sucker for a good time traveling romance ;) so The Time Traveler’s Wife also comes to mind.

I’m happiest when:

I’m making my baby boys giggle!
