It is now officially summer in Houston. The kids are out of school and you have more time to spend with them... but what to do? You might be thinking about various activities that are inexpensive, close in proximity and most importantly fun for the whole family. No need to fret, we’re going to let you in on some sweet places to hang with your family while beating the heat.
1. Visit The Museum District
What better way to cool down than at the numerous museums Houston has to offer? Houston is home to some of the most diverse museums, including The Museum of Natural Science, The Menil Collection, The Museum of Fine Arts and The Children’s Museum. For more info, visit:
2. Spend The Day At Any Park in Houston
When it comes to parks, Houston has many! From your neighborhood park across the street to the Museum of Natural Science and Discovery Green, picnics will always be an easy, fun outing. Plan a casual, family outing by bringing your favorite jams, ice-cream for the kiddos and that cute sun hat you never get to wear for a relaxing getaway. If you’re not into big crowds, try for the more local parks, like Memorial or Eleanor Tinsley Park downtown, which offers a great view of the downtown skyline.
3. Take A Trip To The Bookstore
So maybe your kids are the less active type and prefer a more relaxed environment, that’s great! Instead of grilling yourself in the sun, head into any nearby bookstore for a great cool-off session! You can sit anywhere you’d like with the convenient, comfy chairs they offer. This is ideal because it allows you and your child to relax, but most importantly also having your child’s mind engaged with the endless books.
4. Stroll to the Dancing Fountains at Downtown Aquarium
If you’re a local, you might have already been to the Downtown Aquarium, but what most people don’t know is that they have “dancing” water fountains for kids to play in and cool off in the summer. This is a great way to end a long day at the park or museum. All you have to do is bring a towel and a change of clothes and you’re set! Here’s a link for more info! http://bit.ly/1M08PTV
Now that we’ve let you in on some summer fun, it’s time to start planning! We hope these activities give you timeless memories with your kids and most importantly a way to beat this Houston heat. The entire CHS staff wishes you a fun, safe summer!
