VIA COLORI

Saturday Reliant Main Stage Preview

Alright, so we’ve already raved about our incredible Lounge Stage lineup at this year’s Via Colori and now it’s time to show our amazingly talented Reliant Main Stage acts the same kind of love. Whether your musical genre of choice is rock, country, zydeco, funk, Latin or folk, we’ve got something for you at Via Colori. Thanks to our Via Musica sponsor, Reliant Energy, we have two full days of free music for everyone to enjoy. Here’s a quick overview of what we’ve got in store this Saturday, just in case you aren’t excited enough for this weekend’s festival!

The Texas Toast, one of our favorite Via Colori bands, will be getting things started on the Reliant Energy Main Stage at 12:00 P.M. The Texas Toast is a little bit country, a little bit rock ‘n roll and a ton of fun. The band was formed in 2005 after lead guitarist and vocalist, Eric Korb, and drummer, Steve VanHorn, decided they wanted to create a purer Texas sound than their current projects. After adding a few more seasoned musicians to their roster, The Texas Toast began playing shows all over the Houston area. They are such a huge staff and fan favorite that this is their third appearance on the Reliant Main Stage. If you’ve never caught them during previous years, don’t miss your chance to start your weekend at Via Colori with them.

Up next at 1:30 P.M. is Solero Flamenco, which is arguably the most unique and multi-sensory act of the entire weekend. With trademark energy and passion they deliver an extensive repertoire of ‘cante, guitarra y baile,’ which literally translates to ‘song, guitar and dance.’ Between the skilled, classically-trained Latin finger-picking of Jeremy Garcia, the gorgeous vocal phrasing and rhythmic dexterity of Irma La Paloma, the steady beat of percussion, and spectacular flamenco dancing, Solero Flamenco will delight all of your senses during their hour-long set on Saturday afternoon. Their love for Spanish culture runs so deep that they founded the Houston Spanish and Flamenco Festival. Make sure you see this showcase of the melodic and rhythmic complexity of the art of flamenco for yourself.

Houston zydeco legends, the Zydeco Dots will be hitting the Reliant Main Stage at 3:00 P.M. The Zydeco Dots have won the Houston Press Music Award for ‘Best Zydeco’ many, many times and I’d be willing to bet money that they will claim that award once again tonight at Warehouse Live during the 2011 Houston Press Music Awards ceremony. Formed in 1987 when the zydeco genre was still relatively obscure in the Houston area, the Zydeco Dots brought that style of music to venues where the music had never been heard before. Because of their trailblazing ways, zydeco began to gain a real Houston following. If you’ve never had a chance to see these Houston zydeco mainstays before now, don’t miss your chance to see them for free at Via Colori.

Finally, make sure you stick around for our Saturday headlining act Klockwork, who will be performing at 5:00 P.M. They’ve been funkin’ up the local music scene for more than ten years and we’re thrilled to be welcoming them to Via Colori for the first time. Formed in 1997 as a show band with lots of energy and many years of collaborative experience, Klockwork has an incredibly unique, full sound and often times keeps the audience dancing for hours. Join us at the Reliant Main Stage as Klockwork rips through their catalog of funk, jazz, R&B and Motown hits from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s and groove with us as the first day of Via Colori comes to a close.

Stay tuned for our final Via Colori entertainment blog post, the Sunday Main Stage Preview which will be hitting the ‘net on Thursday.
