Listen to Your Buds!
At CHS, our Listen Now, Hear Later program is dedicated to hearing loss prevention designed to...
Clinic hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. The Clinic is open year round and follows the Houston ISD school year calendar. Students are scheduled with their assigned speech-language therapists. Final appointments for each day will be made at 4:00 pm.
Evaluations are scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays at 1 p.m., however, annual speech and language evaluations for established Speech Clinic students will be scheduled during regular therapy times.
For children to benefit from the services provided, consistent attendance is necessary. Optimal progress occurs when students are seen at prescribed therapy times. If the student cannot attend a scheduled session, the cancellation procedure is to contact The Center for Hearing and Speech (CHS) or the speech pathologist 24 hours in advance of the session (713) 523-3633. You may leave a message on voice mail if necessary.
Therapy sessions canceled less than 24 hours in advance due to illness will be given consideration. Your speech therapist will work with you to reschedule a canceled appointment when possible. In the event of excessive cancellations* or absences*, we will discuss the need to re-evaluate the child’s therapy schedule. If there are 2 “no-shows,” a letter will be mailed letting you know your child has been discharged from therapy. If your regular therapist is absent due to personal or family emergencies for more than 3 consecutive work days, therapy sessions may be made up by one of our other therapists at CHS's discretion.
Cancellations due to the following conditions will not be made up:
Continued failure to attend appointments after the meeting or conference may result in dismissal from therapy.
*Excessive cancellations/absences = 25% of sessions are missed. 75% of scheduled appointments need to be attended.
“No-shows” = failure to call to cancel prior to appointment time.
Sessions must begin and end at the scheduled times. There are no provisions for extending sessions to accommodate tardiness. The last appointment of the day the therapist will wait no more than 15 minutes.
Clients will be billed and/or insurance filed for all attended sessions. In addition, parents will be directly billed $30.00 per session for any missed therapy sessions not canceled 24 hours in advance, except in cases of illness. It is necessary for all parents to sign at the front desk before each scheduled session.
The clinic is closed for most major holidays and several in-service days for speech-language pathologist. On those days there is no individual therapy. Please refer to CHS's calendar for these scheduled days. This clinic may also close if bad weather prohibits safe travel. Your child’s speech therapist will call you as soon as this decision is made. If you do not hear form us, please call CHS and listen to the outgoing message for a closing due to inclement weather.
PLEASE do not bring your child to therapy unless he/she has been free of fever and/or diarrhea for 24 hours and is feeling well. The clinic follows the recommendations of the Texas Department of Health concerning re-admissions of a child after communicable disease. Infectious diseases require a doctor’s note stating that treatment has begun and the child may return to regular schedule activities.
In order to protect the privacy and confidentiality of each child’s program and records and each parent’s submitted information, access to therapy rooms, observation booths, classrooms and office areas is limited to staff members or persons accompanied by staff members. For this reason, all parents, volunteers and visitors must sign in with the receptionist at the front desk. The receptionist will notify the appropriate staff member who will meet the parent/volunteer/visitor in the lobby. Parents, volunteers and visitors should wait in the lobby until they have been met by a staff member. Safety of the children must always be a primary concern.
Families need to be aware that the office areas of the building are not child-proofed; there are many objects in these areas that could harm a child. Please help keep all of the children safe. Thank you for your cooperation.
Parents/guardians are responsible for each of their children whenever they are on the premises of CHS and the children are NOT in the direct charge of a staff member.
Call The Center for Hearing and Speech at (713) 523-3633. An appointment can be made for a speech evaluation with an audiology consult or a one-to-one consult with the Directors of Audiology and the Speech Department to review your medical records.
Our qualified and knowledgeable staff is waiting to hear from you.
