Parent-Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT) is an empirically-supported treatment for young children with emotional and behavioral problems that places emphasis on improving the quality of the par
ent-child relationship and changing parent-child interaction patterns.
The goal of PCIT is to empower parents to make changes that will lead to a nurturing and secure relationship with their children, thus improving the lives of both the child and their family. When the focus of the child’s interaction with the parents is play, the tension of a therapeutic environment is drastically reduced and barriers between the child and their parent are broken down, enabling the relationship to grow.
