Library

The library at The Center for Hearing and Speech contains a wide variety of materials for staff members and parents along with many fiction and non-fiction picture books for our young students.
Reading to a child on a regular basis has been shown
to be extremely important for future academic performance. Learning to listen through daily reading
is especially vital for young hearing-impaired children,
and families are encouraged to use our library as a
convenient source of books for this purpose.
Funds for the library come mainly from grants and donations, often in honor of, or in memory of, a special person. Our Happy Birthday Club is one way
to recognize the birthday of a child, friend, family member or staff member.
Summer Reading
Reading, or being read to, is an important activity that should continue even during holidays and summer vacations. In an effort to assist families with book selection, the Houston Area Independent Schools Library Network (HAISLN), of which The Center for Hearing and Speech is a member, annually publishes lists of recommended titles divided by grade levels for Preschool through Grade 12 students. These lists are compiled by librarians at member schools and include both fiction and non-fiction books by some of the best authors for children and young adults. To access all of these titles, go to the HAISLN web site at www.haisln.org and click on the link to “HAISLN Recommended Reading Lists.”
