Joie Chandler – Houston, Texas

Joie Chandler is the founder of Backyard Moonshine Art Collective, and a 20 year veteran of the Houston visual arts scene. She also teaches math in HISD, and volunteers her time to make art with local children and teens. Joie is a classical painter who studied in residence with the late Houston art legend, Cholla. Like her mentor, her work in portraiture tends toward a mixture of the playful, the moody, and the traditional elements of classical oil painting. This is Joie's 4th year at Via Colori, and the second year that she will be working joyfully alongside her students. She is proud to team up again with 15 year old emerging artist, Astrid Rose Yeager (2 years Via Colori/Kerrville Chalk Festival), as she prepares for her first year in the visual arts program at HSPVA.
