Our Audiology Department provides a full range of diagnostic and habilitative services to children ranging in age from birth to age 18. Diagnostic services include behavioral audiological testing: Visual Reinforcement (VRA), Conditioned Play (CPA) and conventional audiometric techniques. We also offer electrophysiologic measures for screening and diagnostic purposes. These tests include Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR), Auditory Steady State Response (ASSR) and Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE). Our habilitative services include: hearing aid evaluation, selection, fitting and verification, FM system evaluations, and fittings, cochlear implant candidacy evaluation, device selection, mapping and troubleshooting. Your varied caseload will include children of all ages and levels of ability. As part of our department, you will have access to state-of-the-art equipment and technology for patient assessment and management.
The goal of this educational externship is to provide a variety of clinical experiences to develop the skills necessary for a career as a pediatric audiologist. The extern can expect to receive intensive training and mentoring from an experienced staff of clinical audiologists. During the placement the extern will have the opportunity to apply academic principles within a clinical practice and learn to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
A stipend may be available for the 2012-2013 externship year. The Center for Hearing and Speech will also cover the cost of your Texas State licensure.
