Breanna has worn hearing aids since she was a baby and was a student at the Melinda Webb School at The Center for Hearing and Speech. Her hearing has decreased over time to where her left hearing aid was not helping her understand speech.
The cochlear implant she received will help her understand speech better with her left ear.
Click here to witness the touching moment Breanna's cochlear implant was turned on and she could hear her mom's voice again.
Moments later, Breanna and her family began working with her speech therapist (Listening and Spoken Language Specialist) on various listening activities to improve her ability to understand spoken language. Speech therapy is a critical component to a cochlear implant user’s success. Weekly speech therapy can help children with cochlear implants develop speech, language and literacy skills on par with their peers.
