Professionals at CHS are committed to helping children with hearing loss reach their full potential by teaching them how to listen, speak and read without the use of sign language. In today's Staff Spotlight, we're hearing from one of the members of our audiology team, Dr. Julie Cordell!
What is your official job title?
Describe your role at CHS.
On a daily basis, I complete hearing evaluations and/or auditory brainstem response evaluations on children ages birth through 18 to monitor hearing loss, diagnose hearing loss or confirm normal hearing. I fit and dispense hearing aids, FM systems and help parents feel comfortable with their child’s equipment. I am also the Hearing Screening Coordinator for CHS, which involves our audiologists going to Title I schools in the Greater Houston area to screen students (which is state mandated). Last year, we screened over 8,000 students. I am also the CHS Externship Coordinator, which includes a detailed process of selecting 1-2 fourth year audiology doctoral students to come to CHS for a unique learning experience in a pediatric multi-disciplinary team clinic and serve as their main preceptor throughout the year.
