As much as we’d love for you to visit us both Saturday and Sunday, we understand that a few of you might not have that luxury. So Saturday or Sunday? Only you can decide, but we’ll just go ahead and sell you on both with some music previews.
Each day we’ll have two stages – the Reliant Main stage set up is right in front of City Hall, overlooking the reflecting pond where you and your buds can feel like legit Houstonians as you soak up sun and sounds on the lawn with the city in the background; the IKEA Lounge Stage is on the opposite side of City Hall on Bagby, overlooking a massive block-long mural of the Houston skyline. Either stage you visit you’ll be enjoying great music while looking at some version of the Houston horizon.
Now let’s start with Saturday.
On the main stage we’re kicking off with Jerk Store, performing their raucous covers and getting everyone on their feet. After the mob cools down, Runaway Sun will “effortlessly weld elements of blues, pop, country and rock into a cohesive, arresting sound (Houston Press)”. They’ve even opened for Heartless Bastards and Matt & Kim. Next up, we’ve booked a group that’s gaining tons of momentum in the Houston music scene – Los Guerreros de la Música (or just “LGM” if you’re lazy!). For those of you who love to dance, LGM plays the perfect blend, including but not limited to Spanish Rock, Cumbia, Reggae, Ska, Second Line Jazz, Mariachi, Tropical, & Funk. Did we miss any? The final Saturday performance will be the incredibly talented Justin Van Sant Band, voted 2013’s “Best Country Act” by the Houston Press.
You may want to work out your concert schedule ahead of time, because we have four excited performers booked for Saturday’s IKEA Lounge Stage as well. Jess Walker will kick off with strong vocals, and a captivating soul-pop vibe. FM Radio will take it from there, busting out their feel-good Americana covers. Next we’ll have the pop stylings of Aaron Kaufmann, playing the perfect soundtrack for a low-fi afternoon in the park. DJ Ceeplus Bad Knives will then take the stage to round out the evening with his mixing magic of the MFAH Mixed Media series.
Stay tuned for the next blog so we can sell you on our Sunday line-up, coming soon...
